A Visit to Como - Bonsai and Japanese Garden

In contrast to the Sunken and Tropical gardens, which gave a feeling of closeness and color, respectively, the Japanese garden gave a feeling of openness and tranquility.

The garden was designed by Masami Matsuda, a revered landscape designer from Nagasaki, Japan, and wanders down a hillside.

The path of the garden wanders over a stream and around some trees before reconnecting with itself.

At the bottom is a path back to the teahouse, but it wasn't open at the time of our visit.

Tea ceremonies are held at the tea house, but the spaces for attendees are booked far in advance.

In the transition between the indoor gardens in the greenhouses and the entrance to the Japanese garden is a display of bonsai- some indoors, some outdoors.
