Rectangular Plates

Around November, I had a bit of fun playing with a single method of making rectangular plates. The impending holiday season may have been on my brain a bit.

Christmas tree plates
Clay: MB
Glaze: Cushing Blue/Green
Firing: Cone 10 Reduction
These two plates ended up being a present for my parents.

Quick question - what's the difference between a plate and a tray? Visually, it appears to be handles.

Tree Tray
Clay: MB
Glaze: Green Stain and Blue Ice
Firing: Cone 10 Reduction
This tray has same dimensions as the two plates above. However, just by adding the handle-like decoration to the edges, the visual cue a to the function of the object is completely changed from an appetizer plate to a small serving piece.
